Language Practice Possibilities of Talking to ChatGPT

It is now possible to have voice conversations with ChatGPT using the Voice Control for ChatGPT Chrome plugin.

Once it’s installed, you can use the regular ChatGPT interface or click on this icon to open a new Window that lets you speak to ‘Mia’. 

In Settings, you can control speaking speed and select from a few different voices.  You might be able to add additional voices in your operating system.   Info about Installing voices here

You can use tools like Zoom, Screencastify, Bandicam, or anything else that can record audio from your mic and the computer.  

Below are some prompts you can use to interact with ‘Mia’, but feel free to interact with her in any way you like. Happy Experimenting!

For a topic-based conversation

Let’s discuss <topic here>.  Please start by providing a 30-second overview of the topic.  If there is something I don’t understand, I will ask for clarification.  Then, ask me a series of related discussion questions. When I’m ready to move on to the next discussion question, I’ll let you know.

For scenario-based role plays

For Example:
I’d like to practice my English conversation skills.  Let’s pretend we are strangers on a plane getting to know each other.  I am a female university student from Korea and you are Timothy Chalamet.  You start the conversation.”

Free Talking

You can talk to Mia about anything that’s on your mind.  To start the conversation, you can say something like:
“I’d like to talk about  <my best friends, favorite hobby, tough day, blind date, a book I just read, etc.>. Please start the conversation.”

Create a collaborative Story

“Let’s create an interactive story together.. The setting is < >. I’ll start by saying the first sentence.  You respond with the next sentence.  Then we’ll take turns continuing the story one sentence at a time. I’ll begin…

Debate

“I’d like to practice my English debating skills. Let’s have a debate on the topic:< > I will take the position that < > and you, ChatGPT, will argue that < >  You start by making a 30-second opening statement and I will respond.

Vocabulary

I would like to practice using vocabulary words I’ve been studying.   I will copy a list of words below.  You say one word at a time and I have to give you a short definition and use it in an example sentence. Then you tell me if the definition and word usage are correct.   Here are the words:
